What is "Vermeil" Jewelry?  
Vermeil jewelry must have a sterling silver base with a coating of gold laid over top. The gold coating must be at least 10k and be a minimum of 2.5 microns thick (100/1,000,000 inch). Gold thickness is the biggest difference between vermeil and gold filled jewelry.
